Carshalton boxer Lenny Daws has admitted this weekend’s bout against Tony Pace is a “must not lose” occasion.

Despite his defeat going for the European light welterweight title in June, Daws remains confident of another shot at a title, and considers Saturday’s fight at Glow, Bluewater, as an essential exercise in reaching that goal.

The 34-year-old’s opponent is the current British Masters lightweight title holder.

However, Pace, 20, has not won this year, and carries an inconsistent record, having won only four of his 10 professional fights.

The pair will fight over six rounds, rather than the eight preferred by Laws.

Daws said: “Tony will come on strong at the beginning and I tend to grow into a fight, so over six rounds I’ll need to be sharper quicker.

“I don’t think about losing, but while this fight is all about making sure I don’t get ring rusty, I know it is a must not lose fight.”

“I am still hungry for the game, and I’ve been training hard. I want another shot at a title, I’m ready.”
