Tooting & Mitcham boss not giving up on survival
Kenny Brown is adamant he and his Tooting & Mitcham squad have not given up on Ryman Premier League survival.
After harsh 1-0 defeats to Met Police and East Thurrock United this week, the Terrors find themselves 11 points adrift of safety with only nine games to go.
But an influx of new players saw an improvement in performance against Police and Thurrock and they could go a long way to boosting their chances when they go to Hastings United, the side just outside the drop zone, tomorrow night.
And Brown believes a win - something they haven't achieved in seven matches - would see them embark on a run to boost their chances.
"No one is throwing in the towel and saying we are down," he said.
"I believe this group of players will turn it around and we feel one win would break this run we are on.
"Every game we think this is the game where we will get the win but if we go about things the way we did against Met and Thurrock and have that little bit of luck there's no reason why we cannot turn it around and win against Hastings.
"There are 27 points to play for and if we can win two on the trot if makes a big difference.
"We are competitive in every game and if we can pick up points this week everything looks different.
"If it takes us until the last game of the season that's the way if goes but we need to be in that position then."
Brown wielded the axe to his squad after defeat to bottom side Horsham on March 3, and had six débutantes in the team when they missed a penalty on their way to defeat at Met Police.
"The defeat at Horsham was a big let down and we realised then the players didn't feel comfortable going into the run in with that group we had," added Brown.
"So we changed it around and the players we have here now are proper men.
"They know what they are coming into and that they are here to keep the club up and not pick up money.
"There has been a vast improvement in performance and attitude but the defeats were a bitter pill to swallow.
"When you are down the bottom and you need the luck it evades you.
"I am disappointed for the players because they have played well in the last two games.
"They know the position we are in and that every point is valuable now."
