Despite being a veteran of two Olympic Games and nearly 200 international caps, Rob Moore reckons the lure of London 2012 is making him improve with age.

The 29-year-old Wimbledon player made his international debut 18 months before the 2004 Athens Olympics where Great Britain finished ninth before helping them improve to fifth in Beijing four years later.

Moore has won 190 caps for Britain and England and enjoyed European Championships glory in 2009 before helping England to Champions Trophy silver last year.

“I am improving the whole time and in any sport experience does count for an awful lot,” said Moore.

“I would like to think I am improving even if I am a bit older and a bit slower.

“I have quite a few years left in me and it is exciting going to another Olympic Games. Hopefully as a team we can perform to our best and maybe win something.

“Every tournament between now and London is very important. At the Europeans we are the defending champions and that is a big opportunity for us to stake our claim for 2012 and show we mean business.

“We want to win everything and we will focus on our performances and building towards playing our best at 2012 because that is going to be big.”

As hosts, GB are guaranteed to be at London 2012 which means they can defend their European title in Germany this August with the pressure of Olympic qualification off.

However, having finished fourth at both the World Cup and Commonwealth Games last year, Moore admits there will still be pressure.

“Not having the pressure of qualifying at the Europeans is a weight off us and gives us a chance to look at our development,” he added.

“But, equally, we are putting pressure on ourselves to perform and we hope to defend our European title and to start beating the world’s top teams.”
