I was surprised to read in your article in the 12 February edition that the reverting to two way traffic in South Street is estimated to cost circa £3m.

This seems an excessive amount just to put things back to the way they were. It is not apparent from the limited details made available so far what alterations will be made to the other streets, but as the traffic direction remains the same, I assume they will be relatively minor.

Let us hope that the proposed "public realm" improvements will be of a higher quality than recent earlier attempts at Station Approach and Church Street, which had no regard to the ambience of Epsom as a historic market town. It will be interesting to see the proposals in detail when the public consultation is launched later this year.
