I am appalled by the content of the letter from Councillor Arthur (Time to take the sensible road ahead, February 5) in favour of proposed two way traffic in South Street, Epsom.
It may be that traffic from West Hill travelling in the Ashtead direction will be eased as far as the junction with Woodcote Road, however everything else will be a disaster. Please note the following:
1. Traffic from West Hill heading to the Downs will still find it easier via the High Street otherwise if it takes the proposed route it will have to take a left at the Woodcote Road junction which will be even more disrupted.
2. Traffic heading in the West Hill direction from the direction of Waterloo Road, Hook Road, East Street, Upper High Street, Church Street, Ashley Road and Ashtead will all be faced with two way traffic heading towards it in South Street.
Councillor Arthur's support of computer projections is misplaced as they are only as accurate as the level of human input, which in this case is obviously flawed.
It is planned to install even more traffic lights which will cause more disruption. It is a local joke that if you stand still too long in Epsom you will be fitted with traffic lights.
The traffic system is a mess and this scheme will result in further chaos at a cost of well over £1million to taxpayers.
