Women cat-walked their way into raising £1,000 for earthquake victims during a fashion show.

The Valley Community Primary School, in Hibbert Street, Bolton, hosted a women-only fashion show that showcased traditional Eastern and Indian clothing.

Yasmin Kothiwala, who has a child at the school and organised the event, said: "It was a really great evening and everyone had a good time.

"It was a women-only night because we wanted to encourage Asian women and parents in the area to get out of the house and at the same time raise money for a worthy cause."

Headteacher Gwen Acton said: "The women worked so hard in organising the event and the prizes were paid for out of their own pockets.

"The tickets were £5 each and the food, prizes and catwalk were all in the price with people making donations on the night.

The event was funded by the Fatima Womens' Network based in Leicester.

Last month, the Valley Community Primary School raised £1,147 during a non-uniform day with the proceeds also going to the Asian earthquake appeal.
