Farm advice issued by Surrey doctor
A Surrey doctor has issued advice to parents on how to prevent their children from getting sick at farms and petting zoos.
Dr John Clarke from Epsom and St Helier University Hospital said children should wash their hands thoroughly with soap after having contact with animals and should not put their fingers near their faces while in the vicinity of the animals.
Food and drink should not be consumed while at the farms and shoes or pushchairs should be cleaned if they have been soiled, he said.
People who get sick or have diarrhoea within two weeks of contact with the animals should immediately contact their GP or call NHS Direct on 0845 4647.
