If you could hear a familiar booming voice in Kingston town centre on Tuesday morning, you were not mistaken.
Peter Dickson, also known as the E4 “Voiceover Man”, was at Kingston’s Shakeaway store in Thames Street on Tuesday to look for three talented singers to feature on his summer dance song, Shake, Shake It.
Mr Dickson said: “It’s one of those annoying tracks that seem to go round and round in your head, but it’s cheesy, it’s fun and an antidote to all this hardcore rap that’s around at the moment.
“I’ll be the dance caller on it and we’re looking for people who we can turn into stars on this particular record.”
Having been the voice of the hit ITV show X-Factor since its launch six years ago, Mr Dickson admitted his had been a “very lucky” career, having also presented the news on television and on Terry Wogan’s BBC Radio 2 show.
He said: “I used to think that doing silly radio voices was somehow beneath me, but I don’t think like that anymore. What I’m doing now is really what I love doing.”
Rob Hazell, 49, and business partner Peter Moody, 56, started the Shakeaway milkshake chain in 1999 and have since built 44 shops nationwide, including the Kingston branch in 2004.
Mr Hazell said: “Peter and his record producer Steve came to us because we are all over the country and we are seen as a fresh brand.
“There is a lot of doom and gloom right now with the recession so it’s about time we had a cheesy family song.”
