Pop duo and stars of last year’s Britain’s Got Talent, Bars and Melody, signed CDs and records of their new single in Kingston yesterday.

The pair who managed to grab Simon Cowell's golden buzzer place in the competition, popped into Banquet Records to promote their latest offering Keep Smiling to excited fans.

This was their first appearance in Kingston.

The duo speak to their fans

Banquet co-manager Jon Tolley estimated about 800 people turned up to see Charlie Lenehan, 16, from Bristol and Leondre Devries, 14, from Port Talbot, Wales, who finished third in last year’s Britain’s Got Talent competition with their song Hopeful.

Mr Tolley said: “It was bonkers – the atmosphere was hectic, a real party. For the kids it’s a great day out with their mates. And it’s great because it gets them into record shops. A lot of them have never bought a CD or record before.

“It’s great for the town as well. We were busy, Primark was busy, Mcdonalds was busy. Everyone benefits from it.”

The queue to see Bars and Melody went all the way down Eden Street and round the corner down Ashdown Road

Bars and Melody are known to sing and rap about personal experiences including bullying.

For fans of live music there are in-store performances this weekend at Banquet Records, with indie bands Little Comets playing on Saturday from 6pm and Simian Ghost playing on Sunday from 5pm.
