A driver had a lucky escape after a brick was thrown from a bridge and smashed through his windscreen.

The black Audi A3 was travelling southbound on the A3 between Hook and Esher on Sunday, January 11, when the item, believed to be a house brick, shattered the front window.

The driver, a man in his 40s, was shaken but unharmed by the incident, which happened between 12.15pm and 12.25pm.

It is thought the brick was thrown from the second bridge on the southbound carriageway.

Police constable Emma McGeehan from Guildford CID, said: "Thankfully, the driver of the vehicle targeted in this incident was not injured. However, this was undoubtedly a very frightening experience which could have had a much more serious outcome.

"Throwing items into live traffic may seem like a laugh at the time but can quickly escalate into something extremely serious - people have been killed because of mindless acts like this and we will be doing all we can to find those responsible."
