The new North Kingston secondary school will be called The Kingston Academy.
It triumphed over Hawker Academy Secondary School, The Cesar Picton Free School and River Park School.
The name was announced today by Kingston Educational Trust, the group behind the free school which includes Kingston College, Kingston University and a Kingston Council.
Headteacher-to-be Sophie Cavanagh said: “I am delighted with the chosen name of our school, The Kingston Academy. “We know it will be a popular choice as it is a name of distinction that captures our commitment to delivering excellence for our community.”
The school will be a co-educational, non-selective and non-faith school with six forms of entry for 11-18 year olds when it opens in September 2015.
Kenneth Dunstan who suggested the winning name said he was “pleased” with the result. A logo will be finalised in the next few weeks.
