A WOMAN escaped serious injury after her car smashed into a wall in Bournemouth.

The blue Toyata Rav4 ended up embedded in the low brick wall just off St Michael’s roundabout in Cambridge Road following the incident at 7.55am.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said a road sweeper vehicle was also involved in the incident.

Bournemouth Council confirmed the vehicle belonged to the local authority and said there was a police investigation taking place into the circumstances of the collision.

An ambulance was also requested by officers at the scene but neither driver required hospital treatment.

Police partially closed Cambridge Road between St Michael’s roundabout and Bournemouth West roundabout while they dealt with the incident and cleared the debris from the carriageway.

Jerry Fisher, 56, resident of nearby Holmdene Court flats, reported bricks flying from the wall into the garden of the properties.

He said: “I think the driver of the Toyota came round the roundabout and there was the council truck sweeping the road.

“I didn’t hear a thing but there are loads of bricks which flew across near that window.

“There looked to be a bit of damage on the front of the road sweeper but everyone was okay.

“That wall will have to be rebuilt. I am shocked the airbags in the Toyota didn’t go off especially with the impact it must have made.”

There were delays as a result of the road closure, which was lifted just before 9am.
