A beautiful stone elephant has been stolen from outside a restaurant in Weybridge.

The elephant, one of two that stood in front of the Thai Garden Restaurant in Weybridge High Street, was taken on Saturday, November 10.

Noi Kaewkulfri , restaurant owner, said: “I don’t understand how someone could take it. The elephants are there for the children. It is very sad.”

The police have told Ms Kaewkulfri that there is nothing further they can do, and she admitted her fear it would never be returned.

She said: “They are very heavy, I don’t understand how they took it. I doubt I will ever see it again.”

The animal ornaments are considered by people in the area as something of a local landmark, having stood outside the restaurant for seven years.

Ms Kaewkulfri said: “A lot of children, when they walk past, like to climb and play on the elephants. They take pictures. It’s a wonderful thing.”

It has been a tough time of late for Ms Kaewkulfri after her house, a 10-minute walk from the restaurant, was broken into two weeks ago.

If anybody sees the elephant, or knows where it might be, contact the police on 101 or the Thai Garden Restaurant on 01932 846824.
