A motorcyclist leapt off his bike on the A3 this evening after it burst into flames.

The fire caused heavy congestion on the carriageway near New Malden after Tesco on the slip road.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said they were called at about 6.10pm to reports of a man who jumped off his bike. He was described as safe and well.

Police said there were no other injuries or other vehicles involved.

One lane is still closed.
