Cricket's 'Harlem Globetrotters' coming to Chessington
1:06pm Friday 18th March 2011 in Your Say
By Simon, Communications Manager / Chessington Cricket and Sports Club
Chessington Cricket Club are pleased to announce that on Friday 5th August 2011 we are to host the world famous Lashings CC World XI at Chessington Cricket & Sports Club, Leatherhead road.
The day will very much be a community affair, open to all, to come and watch the match against some of crickets undisputed international superstars.
This is a really prestigious event for local area and we hope to see huge support in what will undoubtedly be a great days entertainment.
The Lashings World XI cricket team are an “all star” cricket team made up of both international and ex-international cricket stars from across the globe.
They are cricket’s equivalent to the “Harlem Globetrotters” and tour the country each year in the summer months playing against both club sides and schools of all standards. Some of the early signings to Lashings World XI included Muttiah Muralitharan, Brian Lara, Shoaib Akhtar and Sir Viv Richards. They formed in 1995 due to a chance meeting in Antigua between Ritchie Richardson and David Folb (founder and cricket enthusiast) and with Richardson’s connections the Lashings team were soon travelling the UK, taking on (and usually beating!) all comers, including several first class counties! They current playing roster is littered with the games greatest players and can be seen at www.lashings.co.uk/players.
On the day we will be providing various hospitality opportunities if you want to enjoy the game in style and full details can be found at www.chessingtoncricketclub.co.uk/page47.htm. Alternatively contact Dan Yarnley on 07943 612 570 for more information on what is available on the hospitality front.
We hope to make this an inaugural event for Chessington and the surrounding community so put the date in your diaries now and have something to look forward to as the summer months speed towards us!
