Surrey men falter but women are on a roll

Two successive defeats have dashed Surrey’s hopes of glory in group one of the Aegon Summer County Cup competition.
The team, captained by Danny Sapsford, started well enough with 6-3 successes over Lancashire and Warwickshire.
But they crashed 7-2 to Hertfordshire on Wednesday before suffering a 5-4 defeat by North of Scotland at Eastbourne yesterday (Thursday).
The result against North of Scotland went down the the final rubber, but Konstantinos Kalatzis and Tim Patient were pipped by Jamie Murray and Euan McGinn in a three-set epic.
Current standings: 1 Hertfordshire, 2 Kent, 3 Surrey, 4 North of Scotland, 5 Lancashire, 6 Warwickshire.

Surrey women have bounced back from a 5-4 defeat in their opener to Hertfordshire to win their next three matches and move up to second in the group one standings.
Surrey beat both Buckinghamshire and Cheshire 6-3 before a convincing 7-2 success over Middlesex.
Non-playing captain Julie Willson was delighted by Thursday’s performance against their near neighbours.
“It was a determined performance. Hannah Collin picked up an injury but go back out there, gave her best and won an important match.”
