Captain Danny care has signed a new contract at Harlequins, commiting his future to the club for an unspecified period.

The 28-year-old, a key member of the squad at Stoop, penned the deal this week that will extend his stay for the next 'few years' at least with the 2019 World Cup in Japan a likely target.

Director of rugby Conor O'Shea is convinced the number nine - a fringe player for England in the latter stages of ex-head coach Stuart Lancaster's reign -  is capable of earning 100 caps for England.

And should that come to fruition a lucrative swansong in France could be on the cards.

Care, who has 51 England caps so far, has made more than 180 appearances for the club and is unlikely to move on any time soon with pals Chris Robshaw and Mike Brown also in it for the long haul.

Missing from his impressive senior trophy collection is the Europan Champions Cup - having won the Premiership and European Challenge Cup during his time at the club.

And O'Shea is hoping that will change during his extended stay in west London - however long that may be.

“Danny is the ultimate game changer and has matured and grown in front of us all. In Danny we see the Harlequins style stamped all over the way he approaches the game," he said.

“Captaincy is another natural progression for him and I am looking forward to watching him kick on and become an even better player.

"In my opinion, with the skillset he possesses, he should go on to win 100 caps for England and win more silverware for the club.”

Care added: "I really am delighted. The re-signing process was done very quickly as there was never any doubt in my mind to go anywhere else.

"Harlequins is a club I love. I’m very proud and honored to play for and captain the team.

“I love being here, I’m part of a great group of people and I’m really excited to have pledged my commitment to the club for the next few years.”
