Director of rugby Mike Schmid has warned relegation rivals London Scottish the fat lady is yet to sing on his Esher side’s Championship survival battle.

Schmid's men produced a sparkling seven-try romp as they thrashed Plymouth Albion 42-17 on Saturday to set up a final day decider at the Exiles’ Athletic Ground this weekend.

Esher will survive the Championship chop if they beat Scottish by more than seven points and score four tries in the process, while at the same time stop their hosts scoring four tries themselves.

It is a long shot, but Schmid insisted a repeat of Saturday’s final home game of the season is not beyond his men.

“There is a ray of hope,” he said.

“We did ourselves proud against Plymouth. Our supporters and sponsors deserved a performance like that.

“It is just disappointing we couldn’t have produced that display earlier in the play-offs because then we wouldn’t be in this situation.

“But we cannot change the past, we can only look forward now.

“It is there for us and is still in our hands. We have got to attack the game with the same approach and mentality as we did at the weekend. We can still do it.

“Given all the injuries and problems we’ve had, to stay up would be a massive achievement.”

Seb Stegmann, Peter Synnott, Mark Atkinson, Ian Kench, Ignacio Eluso, Johnny Hylton and Sam Stitcher scored the tries that took Esher’s fight down to the final game of the season.

Schmid should have Harlequins pair Stegmann and Charlie Walker at his disposal for the Scottish clash and he reckoned they could be the aces in his pack.

"Scottish are a good side, but we have proved since Christmas that if we have our strongest side available we can be a match for anyone," he added.

"The type of game we play means our wingers get their hands on the ball a lot and that suits Seb and Charlie's strengths."

Scottish have won two of the three encounters between the two teams this term and won 20-16 at Molesey Road in the opening clash of the relegation play-offs.
