Earlsfield ABC's Joe Joyce believes that nobody in the World Series of Boxing (WSB) can match him in the ring.

The 29-year-old's impressive 9-1 record in the competition supports his claim ahead of The British Lionhearts meeting with the Algeria Desert Hawks tonight.

He feels that the longer format of the WSB is the perfect environment to showcase his unique talents in the super-heavyweight category.

Joyce, who will face Mohamed Grimes, said: “A lot of heavyweight boxers are big and strong, but they cannot match me for work rate or the number of punches I throw.

“WSB suits my style because I have a great engine, and the extra rounds give me more opportunity to set the pace and work out my opponents.

“They get tired in the first three or four rounds and that works in my favour.”

The 2012 Great Britain Amateur Boxing champion is looking to make the next step in a career that he only started in his early 20s.

Dreams of representing Great Britain at the Olympics are now at the forefront of his mind, and the Earlsfield boxer hopes the WSB can provide an early qualification route to Rio 2016.

He said: “When I got into the sport going to the Olympics was always my aim, and that is my long term goal.

“The qualification path for Rio is quite complicated, so the ideal scenario is to get qualification done and dusted as quickly as possible through the WSB.”

Despite Joyce’s confidence, and stunning second round stoppage of Victor Vykhrys in his last fight, the British Lionhearts have suffered two defeats in a row in the WSB and will look to rectify this tonight.
