Champion in waiting Ricky Boylan will let his boxing do the talking when he and Tyler Goodjohn go head to head for the vacant English light welterweight title this weekend.

Former Earlsfield ABC lad Boylan goes into the bout in the better form boasting a 12-bout unbeaten streak, while Goodjohn lost to Tyrone Nurse earlier this year when the pair tussled for the same title – Nurse has since vacated the belt for a shot at a Commonwealth belt.

However, Goodjohn has fanned the flames ahead of the bout at the O2 Arena, claiming: “After boxing tough fighters, including Nurse, I don’t feel Boylan is at that level yet and I will stop him late on.

“We’ve got into a war of words on Twitter, and I’m glad the fight is on and we will see how good he really is.”

Boylan said: “Tyler has not stopped talking about it, but I like to do my talking in the ring.

“It is going to be a good fight, roll on Saturday.”

Last time out, Boylan warmed up with a points win over Karoly Lakatos at Wembley Arena, but he is expecting a much different bout this time round.

He said: “Lakatos was so frustrating because he came to just survive the fight.

“I caught him a couple of times in the first round, and then he spent the rest of the fight running away.

“He had a point taken off for holding, and any chance he got he would turn his back.

“But in terms of fighting in front of a big crowd, the sense of being in the dressing room preparing to enter an arena as big as Wembley Arena, it was more experience under the belt and it is experience that you cannot buy.”

He added: “Tyler will be very different as he is a fighter who comes forward, and I’ll be ready for him.

“My trainers and I have been working on game plans depending on what kind of fight Tyler decides to go for.

“We’re ready for any eventuality, and I know I will be English champion come Saturday evening.

“I have to be, October 11 is my youngest son’s first birthday. Freddie is having a party on the Sunday and I’ve promised him the belt.

“Then it is my second son Tommy’s seventh birthday a week later, so I’ll be doing it for them and my family and friends.”
