Warnock tells team to rise to occasion

Neil Warnock has urged his players to step up and be counted as they look to overturn a first leg deficit in their play-off semi-final against Bristol City tomorrow night.

The Eagles go into the game trailing 2-1 from Saturday's first leg and will need to produce one of their impressive away performances if they are to reach the final at Wembley on May 24.

Warnock admitted his team were second best at the weekend, and is looking for a response from them.

"I think they were better than us on Saturday and we have got to overcome that," he said.

"They played well on the day but I think we can improve a lot which is good away from home, there is no pressure now. Nobody will give us two hoots and we are pretty good when we are like that, the underdogs.

"It's another great challenge for me and the players and we have got to step up an be counted. It can only be good experience for some of the youngsters because you don't get this sort of pressure in normal league games. It can only stand them in good stead."

Warnock, who has been promoted four times through the play-offs with his previous clubs and never lost a semi-final, also revealed that he will be intent on not conceding an early goal.

He said: "It's poised to be an interesting evening as long as we don't give an early goal away and calm them down but the play-offs are all about what happens during the full 90 minutes. You just don't know what is round the corner with the play-offs."
