Cooper happy with summer signings

Jimmy Cooper is hoping his summer influx of signings from Ryman Division One South rivals Fleet Town will trigger a promotion drive for his Metropolitan Police side.

With former Fleet boss Andy Sinton electing to jump ship to join Telford, canny Cooper stepped in to offer a way out for any wantaway Town stars, with no fewer than five switching to Imber Court.

Ty Smith is the latest arrival, and the Blues boss is delighted with his acquisitions.

Cooper said: “I have a pretty good relationship with Andy Sinton and when he decided to quit Fleet he suggested any players who might want to leave as well should think about joining us.

“I think our pitch was a big selling point and it has really worked in our favour.

“If you look at Fleet they have been there or thereabouts with the play-offs for the past five seasons.

“They are winners and they have the desire to go that bit extra and that was something we were really lacking last season.

“I am hoping that edge rubs off on the rest of the squad and I expect us to be extremely competitive this season.”

The met travel to Basildon this weekend for a friendly, with a home date with Carshalton Athletic to follow on Tuesday night.
