Kingstonian midfielder Brendan Murphy-McVey enjoyed a "good yet weird" Tuesday night against his former club Carshalton Athletic.

Murphy-McVey is currently on loan at Tooting & Mitcham United where he scored the last goal in the Terrors 3-0 win over their local rivals, the club where he spent the past five years honing his craft.

But the 20-year-old said he just had to focus on doing what was right on the night, which was helping the Terrors to a second Ryman Division One South win of the season.

"It felt strange lining up against lots of old friends, but I had to take the chance when it fell to me," said Murphy-McVey, who showed restraint in his celebration.

"It was a competitive game and, alongside the goal, I got 80-odd minutes under my belt.

"I want to do well for Tooting while I'm here so [Ks manager] Tommy Williams can consider me upon my return."

Murphy-McVey left Carshalton for Kingstonian during pre-season and linked up with Williams, who gave the young midfielder his first taste of senior action when in charge of the Robins.

"Tommy always had faith in me and I also feel Kingstonian is personally a good fit, so I was happy to sign," he added.

"I was sad to leave Carshalton, but I think I grew too comfortable there.

"This move represents a new challenge as I'll have to really focus on pushing myself into the boss's thoughts moving forward."

Murphy-McVey and his Tooting colleagues are on the road to Wembley this Saturday as they travel to Ramsgate in the preliminary round of the FA Cup (kick-off 3pm)
