Mo Harkin is the latest player to commit to Hampton & Richmond for next season, as managers Paul Barry and Darren Powell prepare for a fresh assault on the Ryman Premier League.

Harkin joins Joe Turner, Anson Cousins and Mo Bettamer as cemented players within the squad, while Billy Jeffreys and George Wells have signed 12-month contracts.

There have been no departures from the Beveree as yet, although 19-year-old Tom Hickey has been having trials with Brentford and Crawley, and should a move to the Football League become a reality, Barry will not stand in his way.

He said: “Tom is having trials over the summer. I have known him since he was 16 when I was manager at Camberley, and he has improved massively in his two years in the Hampton first team.

“He has been superb for someone so young, and we would get behind any young player of ours who wants to make that step up.

“Darren [Powell] did it, leaving Hampton to join Brentford, and if we can have two or three others do the same, that would be terrific.

“But we’re equally pleased to see players staying with us – it shows they have confidence in us and what we want to do here.”

The management duo have been working to bring in new players but, as yet, nothing concrete has come to fruition as the Beavers do battle with dozens of clubs for the same signatures.

Barry said: “We’ve come close a couple of times to getting names in, but there are so many clubs in the area at this level with varying budgets that the competition is keenly contested.

“But we have something a little different to offer. We are one of the better supported clubs and we get decent crowds in.

“And our training facilities at Sunbury are sorted, which is a massive bonus. We have a 3G pitch hired for the season, which will make a massive difference to us because we can keep training all year round.”
