Neil Warnock has dampened the hopes of some Palace fans a recall for on loan Reading striker Glenn Murray could be on the cards.

The striker has bagged three goals in half a dozen games since linking up with the Royals and co-chairman Steve Parish has already denied a deal has been agreed to let him join the Championship side permanently in January.

Murray remains a firm favourite with the Selhurst faithful and Warnock’s decision to let him leave in the first place disappointed many.

However, the Eagles boss today reiterated why he had agreed to the loan in the first place when asked by a reporter if a potential recall was likely – something he didn’t appear to be overly keen on.

“It is within our powers to call him back,” said the manager.

“Glenn wanted to play week in, week out and I could see his point of view.

“He came and saw me and pleaded with me really to give him a chance.

“I knew I would get a bit of stick for doing it but I felt he deserved it after what he had done for the club.

“One of the main reasons the club got promoted was because of his goals, so I just felt obliged to let him have some games when he wasn’t going to get a regular game with me.”
