Alan Judge says landing a place in the Republic of Ireland squad for next month's Euro 2016 qualifying play-off is an added incentive to help turn Brentford's season around.

The Bees ended a run of three straight defeat as Judge bagged a brace to land Lee Carsley his first win as head coach by way of a 2-1 triumph over Rotherham United at Griffin Park.

Judge spent the international break with Martin O'Neill's squad as the Republic closed their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign with a 1-0 win over Germany and a 2-1 defeat to Poland to land a play-off spot.

And while the former Blackburn Rovers man did not win a cap he hopes he can do enough to be in the mix again when the Irish face Bosnia & Herzegovina over two legs in November.

"Going away with the Republic of Ireland gave me a lot of confidence,” he told the club's website.

“I went away from the Derby County game a bit embarrassed and disappointed with myself and the team.

"It was good to go away and have a week with the Irish team and see what the standard is like and see where you want to get to.

"I have come back and hopefully I have shown that. With the play-offs coming up that is a huge incentive for me but the lads that are there are doing very well.

"All I can do is do what I can on the pitch and hopefully those two goals today will help me.”

Brentford head to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday night and Judge wants them to back-up the weekend win that lifted them three points clear of the Championship drop zone.

"The dressing room is good after that win, but we know that we can’t sit on that," he added.

"This is only one win and we have to go on a run now. This can’t just be a one-off. We have to go to Wolves now with a bit of confidence.

"It is good when you have games coming up on a Saturday and a Wednesday. We need to recover well and prepare properly.”
