Ex-Brentford midfielder Jonathan Douglas has drawn a line under his disappointing Griffin Park exit after joining Ipswich Town.

The 33-year-old sealed a 12-month free transfer switch to the Tractor Boys ahead of Saturday's Championship opener between his new and former club at Griffin Park

Douglas, a key part of Brentford's success over the past three seasons, did not have a chance to bid farewell to the Bees faithful after being told he was surplus to requirements by head coach Marinus Dijkhuizen.

The former Blackburn Rovers player, who made more appearances for the Bees than for any of his previous three permanent clubs, only featured in one of Brentford's four public pre-season games - at Boreham Wood - on home soil this summer.

“Leaving Brentford is hard because I’d some great times there and met some wonderful people also, the support I received was fantastic, so thank you," he tweeted on Tuesday.

“But to say I am disappointed in how it ended is an understatement. That is all in the past now so good luck for the season (after Saturday) and I wish you all the best.”
