Brentford boss Mark Warburton has labelled work of sporting director Frank McParland as key to the loan signing of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Alex Pritchard.

The 21-year-old England U20 international, signed a season long loan from White Hart Lane on Thursday, with a clause allowing the termination of the contract in the January transfer window.

Pritchard made his Spurs Premier League debut against Aston Villa on the final day of last season, having impressed in a loan spell at Swindon Town where he scored six goals in 36 League One appearances for the Robins.

“Alex is a player I have watched for many years,” said Warburton, who is also reported to be on the brink of signing Rochdale hotshot Scott Hogan, who scored 19 goals in 40 games last term.

“I have followed his career at Tottenham from a young age.

“He is very good tactically and technically with excellent dead ball delivery.

“He showed his quality while he was on loan at Swindon last year.

“Alex will add to the quality in our squad, which is taking shape nicely ahead of the start of the season.

“This deal is testament to the work of sporting director Frank McParland and his team over the summer.

“We fought off competition from a number of Championship clubs to get Alex here.”

Brentford play their opening pre-season friendly at Boreham Wood tonight ahead of Tuesday’s trip to north London to take on Barnet.
