Scott Dann says the Crystal Palace fans deserved another Wembley trip after their “unbelievable” show of support in the FA Cup semi-final.

The Eagles booked a place in the final with a 2-1 win over Watford on Sunday and will return to Wembley on May 21 to face Manchester United.

The packed Palace end generated a constant volley of noise and Dann hopes to have similar support backing the South Londoners next month.

He said: “That fanbase is unbelievable and they deserve to be in the final.

“Hopefully they can turn up again like they did in the semi-final. I am sure they will.

“We know what is riding on it – we are 90 or 120 minutes away from winning the trophy.”

Yannick Bolasie gave Palace an early lead with a header when Damien Delaney flicked on Yohan Cabaye’s corner.

The Hornets levelled shortly after the break through Troy Deeney, but Palace sealed a first FA Cup final since 1990 when Connor Wickham’s fine header flew past Costel Pantilimon.

Dann, 29, was impressed with his side’s defiance after Watford looked to be gaining the upper hand after drawing level.

The defender said: “Having controlled the first half and then them getting a goal back, you know the game can turn on its head.

“Then Connor popped up with a great header to put us back in front.

“We showed character when they were pumping balls into the box from deep. That is what we had to do because they threw everything at us.

“Obviously it is only the semi-final and we have still got another game to win the trophy, but we have got ourselves in an unbelievable position.”

Despite withstanding some late pressure, Wayne Hennessey was not troubled too often in the Palace goal.

Dann insists Palace defended well, but was quick to point out the role the whole team played in preventing Watford chances.

“That goes for the whole team, not just the back four and Mile,” he added.

“We defended well and threw bodies in the way when we needed to. There were bodies flying everywhere.

“We had that desire to win, knowing that there is that big carrot at the end of the game.”
