Carshalton Athletic came away from a Tuesday night trip to Faversham Town with a point despite conceding another late goal.

A solid performance by the Robins appeared to be in vain as their hosts took an 82nd minute lead but, five minutes later, forward Dan Summers struck his fourth goal of the season to level things up.

And, ahead of Saturday's FA Cup tie against Ryman Premier League outfit East Thurrock United, Carshalton midfielder Matt Males believes that display of resilience was just what the doctor ordered.

"We've conceded two costly late goals recently so to hit back with so little time remaining felt good," said Males, who also completed his first 90 minutes of the season.

"We put in a good performance away against one of the league's promotion favourites and certainly didn't deserve to lose."

Males, who played as a right back in Kent, added the old Carshalton may have gone on to lose a game from that position.

"The management are building an underlying spirit which'll help us overcome those recent defeats and the manner of this draw will foster that," he said.

"There is a fighting spirit running through the squad and even the younger players aren't allowing themselves to be bullied this season."

Males said Carshalton's FA Cup second qualifying round game this weekend represents a great challenge.

"We are looking forward to it, there is great belief in our dressing room and I feel we can give any higher division club a run for their money," he added.

"We can play our passing game at home so perhaps that'll give us an advantage on the day."

Carshalton Athletic welcome East Thurrock United to Colston Avenue on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
