Brentford striker Andre Gray is reported to be in talks with Bristol City over the details of a proposed move to the club's west country Championship rivals.

The Bees allowed the 24-year-old to speak with the Robins after tabling a £9million offer for a player who scored 18 times in his first season at Griffin Park.

Gray scored his second goal of the new campaign in Saturday's 4-2 win at Ashton Gate and that persuaded City boss Steve Cotterill to enter the race for his services.

Hull City have had three offers for the former Luton Town striker turned down in recent weeks amid reported interest from Burnley and Premier League West Ham United.

Bristol, League One champions and Johnstone's Paint Trophy winners last season, are ambitious to mount a promotion challenge this term despite having lost their opening two games.

Cotterill had pursued Crystal Palace's Dwight Gayle before turning his attention to Gray.

Bees head coach Marinus Djikhuizen said he was desperate to keep his front man at the weekend, but also admitted it seemed increasingly likely that he would quit the club at the right price.

Brentford, who paid £500,000 to the Hatters for Gray, have been rocked by serious injuries to record signing Andreas Bjelland and Spanish midfielder Jota in the past week.
