Brentford winger Akaki Gogia says victory over Premier League Stoke City is an indication the Bees can launch a successful Championship promotion campaign.

The Georgia-born winger, signed in the summer from German side Hallescher FC, marked his Griffin Park debut with the opening goal in a 2-0 win over the Potters on Saturday.

Northern Ireland international Stuart Dallas slammed home the second to give the Bees a comfortable victory over a side fielding a host of first team regulars, including midfielder Charlie Adam.

And Gogia was left purring by his first taste of life in English football.

"We are not at the same level as them, but we have a lot of good players in the team and the squad," he said.

"If we stay playing at that level and train hard everyday we can make a big step in this season and maybe we can go up."

Head coach Marinus Dijkhuizen, rocked by news  midfielder Josh McEachran will be ruled out for three months with a broken foot after clashing with Toumani Diagouraga in training, was equally up beat.

"We were far the better side. It was good for the confidence of the players, " he added.

Midfielder Jonathan Douglas did not feature for the Bees on Saturday having been told he is free to leave the club earlier in the week.

Defender James Tarkowski also sat the match out with a hip injury, while Lewis McLeod is yet to train with the first team squad.

As such, Dijkhuizen - who signed strikers Lasse Vibe and Philipp Hofmann last week - has not ruled out any more new arrivals in the coming weeks.

“Moving players to other clubs is easier than the Netherlands. We will keep an eye on the transfer market," he added.

“It was the first time we played with that squad today. It surprised me in a positive way.”
