Brentord co-director of football Phil Giles has hinted the Bees will be adding more fire power to their squad after allowing striker Will Grigg to join ex-Premier League side Wigan Athletic.

The 24-year-old left Brentford's Portugal training camp earlier this week to pen a three-year deal with the   former FA Cup holders and call time on his two-year spell at Griffin Park.

Grigg scored 20 goals in 44 appearances during a season-long loan spell with League One runners-up MK Dons last term, having scored five goals in the 36 appearances during Brentford's promotion winning campaign the previous season.

Head coach Marinus Djikhuizen had promised the former Walsall youngster the opportunity to impress him this pre-season, but Grigg moved on once the League One Latics came calling.

"Marinus and I have discussed Will's situation on several occasions in recent days," Giles todl the club's website on Tuesday.

“We reached the conclusion that, on balance, the right decision was to allow Will the opportunity to speak to Wigan, and from there to complete the transfer.

“We would like to thank Will and wish him well at his new club.

“Rasmus and I will continue the work of ensuring that Marinus has the strongest possible squad available to him for the season ahead."
