Marouane Chamakh saw the training ground hard work pay off in style as the Eagles returned to winning ways with a memorable 3-1 triumph at Liverpool on Saturday.

Crystal Palace arrived at Anfield on the back of four straight defeats and supposedly as the bit part players in Steven Gerrard’s last ever Liverpool appearance at the stadium.

But they ruined the former England star’s big day with a deserved success, picking up their first points since an equally impressive 4-1 away success at Sunderland on April 11.

Chamakh said: “It was a really, really good performance from us. We are very happy.

“We trained really hard in the week and prepared well for Liverpool – we were ready for the game.

“It paid off and that’s exactly what happened. Everything we worked on, came off.

“We scored three goals, everyone played well, and we had lost the last four games.”

Chamakh also felt Palace got the return their efforts merited after some decent displays had ultimately failed to put more points on the board.

He explained: “Even the games against Chelsea and Manchester United, we didn’t deserve to lose against them, but against Liverpool we were very happy.

“We knew what we were up against.

“It was Gerrard’s last game and everything surrounding it, but we didn’t care about that when the game started.

“We forget everything and we tried to play with what we worked on in training in the week.

“I am really proud of everyone because we did really well at Liverpool.

“It was a really good performance.”
