Everton loanee Chris Long revealed marking his first Championship start for Brentford with a brace that was literally the stuff of dreams.

The 20-year-old frontman, who scored his first goal for the club last month against AFC Bournemouth, struck twice to inspire the Bees to a 4-1 win over Huddersfield Town on Tuesday.

Long, who had made six substitute appearances for Brentford prior to the Terriers triumph, was a late replacement for striker Andre Gray up front.

And he needed little time to make an impression as he scored the opener inside the first five minutes thanks to a pacy run and finish in the mould of Liverpool legend Michael Owen.

"I had a last night dream last night that I'd hopefully get a goal," Long told the club's website.

"I had no idea I was going to start and once I was told I thought I'd have to give it 110 per cent.

"The manager said go out and enjoy it, play your own game and play with a smile on your face, which I did and I was thankful he said that.

"It really put me at ease."

He added: "I took two bad touches in the first three minutes and I thought it was not going to be my day.

"Once I knew I had them on the turn, I knew I had the pace and the finish and luckily it went in the net.

"I used to watch Michael Owen just hit the ball early and if you hit it early and hit it low down then the keeper has no chance and he had no chance."

Huddersfield levelled through Harr Bunn prior to half time, but Long struck again six minutes after the break before Alex Pritchard and substitute Jon Toral found the net in the final quarter to make the game safe.

The result moved Brentford up to sixth in the table although Ipswich Town can go above them should they win at Leeds United tonight.
