The man who sold goalkeeper James Shea to AFC Wimbledon has tipped the 23-year-old for a very bright future.

Former Dons boss Dave Anderson agreed the deal that saw Shea switch to Kingsmeadow from Harrow Borough in July 2014 and was a face in the crowd for AFC Wimbledon’s 2-1 FA Cup third round defeat to Liverpool earlier this month.

Shea, who made 32 appearances for Borough in the Ryman Premier League, was unable to prevent former England captain Steven Gerrard from netting the winner that night.

But Anderson believes that was just one step on the road to the Championship and beyond for the former Arsenal trainee.

“I spoke to James on that night and he was obviously disappointed,” he said.

“I told him that there were plenty of better of keepers than him in the world that had seen a Steven Gerrard free-kick go past them.

“Gerrard has played more than 100 games for England. James had not played 100 games for Harrow Borough when I sold him to AFC Wimbledon.

“He is a good lad. He will learn and I would be very surprised if he does not go on and become a Championship level keeper, if not better.”
