AFC Wimbledon boss Neal Ardley is hoping for points under the Christmas tree as the perfect preparation for the visit of Liverpool.

Last weekend’s 3-2 win at York City – by virtue of goals from Jake Goodman, Sean Rigg and Matt Tubbs – means Dons have been beaten just once in the past six games in all competitions and sit 13th in the League Two table.

Now Ardley wants to continue that good form when Mansfield visit the CRRS this weekend, and into the rest of the festive period.

He said: “The win at York was massive. We have a tough period in the run up to the Liverpool game and there are points we need to pick up.

“A couple of weeks ago, I had Mansfield down as a strong and physical side, but since Adam Murray became manager, they are still strong and physical, but they can mix it up a bit now, and they have a bit more quality in how they play.

“Then going to Portsmouth on Boxing Day will be tough, in the great atmosphere they have, and then Exeter at home.”

He added: “But wouldn’t it be great to go into the Liverpool game having picked up the points, especially at home, and being high on confidence. That’s our target.”

Dannie Bulman, who limped out of the York game, should be fit for Mansfield, while Andy Frampton is due to see a specialist on Tuesday about his continuing ankle problems.
