Turk provides a captain's example for Wimbledon
6:46pm Wednesday 16th May 2012 in Club Cricket By Graham Moody, Sports Reporter
Man in form: Neil Turk batting on Saturday
Neil Turk led from the front on Saturday as Wimbledon’s defence of the Surrey Championship Premier Division title got off to a fine start.
The captain took four wickets for just 35 runs as opponents Camberley were bowled out for 208, and then scored 66 as he opened the batting and Wimbledon chased down their total to win by four wickets.
The Dons were wobbling at 123-6, but an 86-run partnership between Hiran Marambe (39) and James Brown (40) saw them home.
The postponement of last week’s opening game means they sit in the middle of the early season table.
In division three, a strong bowling performance gave Old Wimbledonians victory over Old Emanuel.
Grant Deg’s 60 helped Wimbledonians to 180 all out before they bowled Emanuel out for 97.
Mitcham were easily beaten by Hampton Wick Royal in division five, losing by 127 runs after being bowled out for 102.
Saturday: Reigate Priory v Wimbledon, Chessington v Old Wimbledonians, Mitcham v Sanderstead.
