Skipper Simon Crampton saw his Malden Wanderers men thrashed by defending Surrey Championship Premier Division title-holders Wimbledon on Saturday, writes Stuart Amos.
Only opening bowler Neil Mander emerged with any real credit as he claimed figures of 5-37 to help dismiss the visitors for 166, to put Wanderers on top at the half way stage.
Crampton’s men, who go to Camberley this week, lost opener Matthew Birrell to a five-ball duck early on, but they reached 26-1, before losing their last nine wickets for just 23 runs, with Neil Turk (5-10) doing the damage.
Weybridge bowler James Crowson was the only player to emerge with any credit from his side’s 215-run defeat to Sutton on Saturday.
Crowson, pictured right, claimed 5-74 as Sutton – led by Gary Outram’s 129 and a knock of 71 from Surrey’s Arun Harinath – piled up 290-9.
Weybridge skipper Joel Pope hit a quick fire 32, but his departure at 48-1 led to his side crumbling to 75 all out and a seventh Surrey Championship Premier Division defeat.
They host Reigate Priory this week.
Worcester Park kept up the pressure on Division Two leaders Leatherhead as they beat Ashford by five wickets.
Three wickets each for Gary Marshall, Rob Bell and Waqas Sagar dismissed the visitors for 111, before Park skipper Rob Waite (56) struck his second half century of the summer to lead his side – who go to Trinity Mid-Whitgiftian this week – to the win.
Leatherhead thrashed Walton by seven wickets at home after the visitors were dismissed for 126 – Mike Nicol (4-10) and Jonathan Tribe (4-37) were their chief tormentors.
An unbeaten 88-run stand between Charlie Russell (70*) and skipper Derek Lane (50*) helped Esher to a 165-run win over bottom-club Cobham Avorians.
Esher posted 229-4, before Kurham Irshad’s 6-37 helped dispatch Cobham for 65.
East Molesey, who go to Dulwich tomorrow, lost by six wickets to Division One leaders Beddington.
Walton host Farnham and Esher go to Horsley & Send tomorrow.
