Team Richmond’s boys’ team have been crowned Balfour Beatty London Youth Games judo champions after a stunning showing at Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The majority of the 25-strong team were from BUSEN Martial Arts club in Twickenham and were selected following a series of open trials and training sessions. In total, the boys won 10 medals across the junior and senior categories.
Jennie Platt, Richmond’s team organiser, said: "Our coaches and everyone who helped organise the team did an amazing job. Our participants performed to a high standard throughout the day, resulting in a first place victory for the boys. It was a great start to Richmond's London Youth Games 2009 campaign."
Medals: Junior section: Tom Wallis - Gold, Joe Di Matteo - Gold, Alex Brown - Gold, William Kaufhold - Silver, David Kerr - Bronze, Oscar Webster-Bell - Bronze. Senior section: William Courtley - Bronze, Nathan Reehal - Bronze, Josh Rees - Bronze, Sam Webster-Bell - Bronze.
