Rams winger: We want a play-off place

Croydon Athletic winger Serge Makofo has set his sights on a surprise play-off place after helping the Rams beat table-topepers Kingstonian 2-1 on Monday night.

The 22-year-old headed home the opener from the impressive Tom Bolawinra’s cross in the second half before striker Sol Pinnock, making only his second appearance after signing from Walton and Hersham last week, won and scored a penalty.

"We have got to stick together, do well for the team and hopefully we can get on a run."

Bobby Traynor’s spot kick ensured a nervous last ten minutes for Croydon but they held on comfortably to extend their run under Tim O’Shea to one defeat in 11 matches.

"Hopefully we can kick on from this and win every game we can,” said Makofo, “because that is what we have got to do if we want to get up into the play-offs.

"We've been drawing a lot of games recently and it is time we got a few wins under our belts.

“The gaffer said before the game that we needed to put a lot of effort in to turn the draws into wins and that is what we did.”

In his 11 games in charge O’Shea has used 33 different players at some point and continued adding to his side last week with the addition of Pinnock, midfielder Joe Howe and youngster Romauld Bouadji, but Makofo doesn’t believe the constant revolving door at the KT Stadium has affected the players.

"I don't think recent changes have made a huge amount of difference,” he said.

“But everyone that has come into the side recently wants to do well for everyone and not just themselves.

"We have got to stick together, do well for the team and hopefully we can get on a run."

O’Shea however played down talk of getting into the play-offs and put the victory down to the players wanting to make amends for a dismal showing in the weekend’s 1-1 draw with Folkestone Invicta.

“I’m pleased,” he said.

“The lads let themselves down on Saturday and they knew themselves they didn’t produce to the levels they have been producing,” he said.

“We are quietly going along doing what we want to achieve and accumulate as many points as we can. If we can get a bit of respect along the way that would be good.”

Croydon Athletic’s next three matches: Feb 19 Welling United (h, London Cup), 21 Burgess Hill Town (a), 24 Eastbourne Town (h).
