There’s not an awful lot to say about the match at Gateshead - it was a poor game played in poor conditions that could have gone either way.

Watching from the stands, you felt it would be decided by a mistake, and in the end there were several individual errors contributing to the home side’s goal which was scored far too easily in truth.

It was definitely harsh on Sutton United though – it was the only time in the game mistakes were made at the back and they were punished.

Chances did fall to United, but the ball didn’t seem to want to go in, with several set pieces cleared off the line, one effort hitting the woodwork, and a few long range efforts flying just off target when another day they might have found the top corner.

It can’t be easy for the players to find their rhythm after a morning of travelling 310 miles to get to the game, but once the Wrexham game next week has been played it will be more than a month until another mammoth away journey up north has to be made.

In a way it is nice to get most of these huge journeys out of the way early on in the season especially as we have, on the whole, started the season very well.

Hopefully United can really push on through the next month of mostly home games and more local away trips to fire the side as high up the table as possible.
