Head coach Dean Smith might have labelled his Bees a work in progress, but keeper Daniel Bentley looks to the manner born at Griffin Park.

The 23-year-old produced a late save to deny Britt Assombalonga an equaliser as the Bees beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 to back up Saturday's 2-0 win over Ipswich Town with another three points.

Striker Scott Hogan struck in the first half after he and Lewis Macleod had seen efforts saved by Forest number one Stephen Henderson.

Bentley arrived from League One Southend in the summer and has now kept two clean sheets in three league appearances for his new club.

And his efforts were not lost on Smith.

"Saves like that are as important as putting the ball in the back of the net," he said.

"Their keeper made two great saves, but we eventually scored."

He added: "We are a work in progress. We've got players coming back from injury and players still finding their feet in this league.

"To get the scalps of teams like Ipswich Town and Nottingham Forest in the space of three or four days is very nice."

Hogan netted his first goal of the season, his eighth in his past eight league appearances for the Bees, to give his side their second triumph of the new Championship season.

It followed up Saturday's 2-0 triumph over the Tractor Boys - thanks to two goals from summer recruit Egan - and means the Bees have now won their past four home encounters - their best sequence in the second tier since 1951.

Tricky: Nico Yennaris, who scored Brentford's first goal of the new Championship season, was again on good form against Nottingham Forest

It was a backs to the wall job at times, but Smith was delighted to see his men prevail.

"We started both halves really well, but they have got good players and put us under real pressure at times," he added.

"It was a tight games and there were mroe booknigs than there probably should have been.

"Scott [Hogan] is back to fitness and is looking robust.
