Brentford midfielder Konstantin Kerschbaumer says it is no coincidence he is finding his best form having been given a run in his favourite position.

The 24-year-old had a stop-start beginning to his Bees career last term, making 31 appearances - including 13 as a substitute - having arrived from the Austrian Bundesliga last summer.

But he gave fans an idea of what the club could achieve when he was deployed in central midfield as head coach Dean Smith's side finished the Championship campaign like a steam train.

He has continued during pre-season where he left off last term and came close to scoring a second half winner in Saturday's 1-1 draw with German side FC Kaiserslautern.

"I played well in the last couple of games last season and I want to continue that form into the first game at Huddersfield Town," said Kerschbaumer.

"I played in my preferred position of centre midfield and showed my strengths by making some through balls and assists.

"It was tough coming to a new club in a different country and trying to prove myself in a different position - I had played all my career in centre midfield before coming here.

"It is good experience to learn new tactical things in a different position, but I prefer to play my best position.

"I think I can help the team more in my best position."
