Originally I was going to write about this weekend. About how we can secure a play-off berth on Saturday. Even if we lose.

And it was going to be the same kind of wistful babbling that you’ve come to expect from me.

The kind that the weirdo in the comments likes to yell at me about (seriously guy, find a better hobby.)

I mean, I’m nothing if not on-brand (actually, that’s not true. My Super Serious Professional Twitter Account routinely dives into tangents about WWE and puppies).

Anyway, so I found this while putzing around on YouTube (see above).

It’s worth a watch, if you still have no idea who this John Green person is (or you’re convinced he’s another wealthy American investor type who doesn’t belong anywhere near the club. If you doubt the veracity of his love for the Dons, I’m positive this video will help change your mind).

There’s a bit near the end of the video where he’s talking to supporters in the bar after a home game.

Ivor hands him the mic and he says: “It is such a testament to me of the power of individuals over corporations, over wealthy people, over greed… a testament to me of the power of individuals who care about something and care about an institution to make this happen.

"This club reflects the best values of football… and I feel so, so lucky to be a part of it.”

So anyway, I chucked my original column for this week because I realised that the result doesn’t matter. The play-offs don’t matter.

What matters is the values this club was built on. What matters are the people who built this from nothing.

The people who make every matchday special, whether it’s Lyle Taylor banging in goals or Mike T manning the PA, or Hetty bringing baked goods to the Radio WDON guys or Neal holding the first team together with both hands.

I want us in League One next season. But if it doesn’t happen, nothing really changes.

This club is still ours.
