Sutton United boss Paul Doswell has called on supporters to stand up and be counted at this weekend’s top of the table clash against Ebbsfleet at Gander Green Lane.

After Monday night’s win over Bishop’s Stortford, United leapfrogged Fleet to top the National League South table on goal difference.

United have three games remaining while Fleet have just two – starting with Saturday’s crunch clash at the Lane.

Fleet already have seven coach-loads of fans coming over from Kent, and Doswell is expecting more than 3,000 fans through the turnstiles.

“It’s a classic first v second match and it is going to be a cracking game with a cracking atmosphere,” Doswell said.

“Fleet are meant to be bringing about 700 fans, so our fans must make sure they are louder and more colourful, and that they get behind the team.

“Our fans have been great and their support has got better and better as the season has gone on, and the atmosphere at the Lane has been excellent.”

He added: “Now is not the time to be nervous, now is the time to enjoy the occasion. Games like this are what we work so hard for.”

Doswell has a pleasant selection headache in the centre of defence, with Louis John, Dean Beckwith, Shaun Cooper and Jamie Collins all in fine form.

John was withdrawn from the action against Stortford after picking up a yellow card and being warned by the referee that a red was not far away.

Bedsente Gomis remains a doubt with an ankle injury, while Craig McAllister could make a return to the action.
