On the back of crashing out of the FA Cup to lower league opposition, facing a side that had scored 11 goals in its previous two games was probably not the best antidote – but Corinthian Casuals boss James Bracken still found the cure to any cup hangover.

The Casuals’ FA Cup journey came to an abrupt halt on Saturday after a 3-1 defeat at Pagham of the West Sussex County League Premier Division.

Stef Joseph got the only goal in a game the Casuals deserved little from.

However, there was little time to lick any wounds before Bracken and co faced Molesey in Ryman Division One South action on bank holiday Monday.

And having seen Casuals’ unbeaten start to the league campaign end at home to Dorking Wanderers prior to the cup exit, Bracken could have feared the worst.

But a late Josh Uzun header sealed a 1-0 win, and the Casuals were back to winning ways and kept their place in the play-off places.

Bracken said: “Molesey have been doing well and had a couple of big wins, so to shut them out, nick a goal and win it means it was a good day.

“We set up today to make sure we were competitive.

“At Pagham, the second ball kept slipping in between gaps and we weren’t really picking up on them enough.

“So we went with a system against Molesey which meant we were able to get the second ball.

“I knew we would create chances, it was just a case of keeping Molesey out. We’ve defended fantastically and everyone has put a bit in.”

He added: “When you win all the time, you sometimes take that for granted, and I’m just as guilty of that.

Getting in where it hurts: Stef Joseph, who scored Corinthian Casuals consolation goal in Saturday’s FA Cup defeat at Pagham, gets involved again in Monday’s Ryman Division One South win at Molesey

“When you have a couple of defeats and then you get the win, you enjoy it just that little bit more.

“You don’t want to get three or four defeats in a row. You want to nip that in the bud as early as possible.

“It was nice that we only had one day off after the Pagham defeat so we could get back to winning ways as soon as possible.”
