Herne Hill Harriers’ U13s and U15s avoided relegation from the Youth Development Lower Premier Division thanks to a great team effort.

Harriers finished fourth on the day and fourth in the overall table, avoiding relegation by just 9.17 points ahead of Crawley AC and Bedford & County.

Individual highlights during the series included double A and B string wins in four events.

Lulu King and Maisie Collis recorded the fastest and third-fastest times in the country this year in dominating the U13 girls’ 1,200m with King running three minutes 47.6 seconds and Collis 3:52.00.

Other strong performances came from Turkay Kormkaz (2:01.2) and Oscar Millard (2:13.0) in the U15 boys’ 800m, Andre Parker (8.90m) and Zak Chukwuemeka (7.12m) in the U13 boys’ shot and Britli Francis (23.80m) and Felicia Nwosu (23.62m) in the U15 girls’ discus.

The club's English schools medalists all showed their quality with English Schools champion Ore Adamson winning the U15 girls' long jump in 5.42m, bronze medallist Mohamed Mohamud winning the U15 boys 1,500m in 4:14.9, silver medallist Alex Brown winning the U15 girls' 800m in 2:19.5 and silver medallist Alfred Mawdsley winning the U15 boys' discus and shot in 29.94m and 11.03m.

Adam Hawkins was Harriers' other A string winner in the U15 boys' long jump in 5.49m, while both girls' relay teams won their 4x100m relays with the U13 girls team, equalling the club record in 53.7secs, and the U15 girls winning in 51.2.

Meanwhile, for the first time in the club’s 125-year history, both Harriers’ women’s and men’s vets teams qualified for the Southern Vets League track & field finals, set to take place in September.
