Herne Hill Harriers’ Ore Adamson became a national champion as she won the junior girls’ long jump competition at the English Schools Championships.

Adamson was competing in her first championships and being in school year 8 will still be in the same age group next year.

She took the lead in the opening round at Gateshead with a jump of 5.61m and then had to wait while several competitors got close to her mark in a high-quality competition.

Adamson was among 23 Herne Hill athletes at the championships, with Harriers making up a third of the London schools team.

There were silver medals for Michaela Obijiaku in the senior girls’ shot with 12.98m, Alex Brown in the junior girls’ 1,500m in four minutes 35.17 seconds, and Alex Mawdsley in the junior boys’ discus with 42.95m.
