Hercules Wimbledon AC’s talented young sprinter Rechmial Miller is in line for two major international championships this summer after winning 100m bronze in the England U20 Championships at Bedford on Saturday.

It was an early birthday present for Miller, who will be 17 on Saturday, and, moreover, he was the top U18 finisher as those ahead of him are more than two years older.

Miller posted his fastest legal time in the final clocking 10.50 seconds with a minimal 0.3 metres per second following wind.

It was an impressive display from the youngster as he improved on his best of 10.65secs before the championships in all three rounds.

Now Miller, who gained his first international vest in an indoor international Wales in Cardiff last winter, seems destined for further honours.

He is in line to represent Britain in next month’s IAAF Youth Games in Call, Colombia, and in the Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa in October.

Miller’s performance rather overshadowed the performance of clubmate Theo Etienne in Saturday’s 100m final.

The 18-year-old, ranked seventh U20 sprinter in the UK this season, just behind Miller, was just outside his lifetime best as he finished fifth in the final in 10.58secs after winning his heat in 10.60secs and finishing third in his semi-final in 10.66secs.

However, it was good enough to earn his first international vest as he has been included in the sprint relay squad for the British team competing in the Mannheim Bauhaus Juniorengala in Germany this weekend (June 27-28).
